For my first endeavor into the culinary world, I decided to make spinach dip! Spinach dip is something I crave often, but when ordered out usually contains gluten (boo), so this was something I was going to have to make on my own. I chose a Martha Stewart recipe that seemed simple enough for me to do, but special enough at the same time. There were a few mishaps along the way though. I did not thoroughly read the directions (which I had scribbled on hot pink post its) so I did not read that you were supposed to chop the spinach. So, the first batch of spinach was whole, which actually turned out not to matter at all. My second mishap involved the cheese. The direction called for me to put the remainder of the cheese on top of the dip… well, I put the remainder of the bag on top, not the remainder of the small portion I was supposed to have measured out. Needless to say, it did not harm the dip at all. I don’t know that I’ve ever had anything that would have been better with less cheese! The final mishap did not involve cooking at all. My hot pink post it note recipe card got wet and dyed our counter hot pink! Since we are renting currently, I had a moment of panic! Luckily a little Comet took that right out! All in all the spinach dip turned out wonderfully! My dad was super impressed with it as well! We ate the entire thing in like 2 days! So, I will count my first endeavor as a success!
Important lessons I learned:
1) Thoroughly read ALL directions.
2) Chopping onions really does make you cry!
3) Get real recipe cards or use a cook book.
4) Extra cheese never hurt anyone!
