Oscar Recap...

First, I have to say that I am so sad award season is over... It's been so fun & I've actually seen a lot of the movies that were nominated/won (I should plan on doing that every year)... I thoroughly enjoyed the Oscars though. Genae came over, we drank champagne, ate dessert & commented on all the dresses & attendees! Let's get started with the most important part of the Oscars - the dresses!

Hailey Steinfeld wins for my best dressed award. I LOVED her dress! I also love that she had a hand in designing it. If I designed a dress for the Oscars when I was 14, it certainly wouldn't have been that fabulous. I thought her look was perfect for the evening & for her age.

A close second was Natalie. She looked gorgeous. The color of her gown is absolutely amazing! I think she definitely deserved the win for best actress as well. Her speech was darling.

And I'll give Mila my 3rd place. I loved the color & thought it was a really pretty choice overall.

Now that we have the dresses out of the way we can talk about the actual award show. I was SO HAPPY Christian Bale won best supporting actor! His speech was amazing! I honestly can only see him as Laurie from Little Women. Love love love!

Random - did you notice that Busy Phillips was sitting next to Michelle Williams??? Genae noticed first & we had to rewind just to made sure! For those of you who don't know, Busy Phillips is Kim Kelly on Freaks & Geeks (and she was on Dawsons Creek). I was so pumped to see her!

Speaking of Freaks & Geeks, let's talk about our host James Franco. I know everyone is bashing them, but I thought he did a great job! I thought the opening was hilarious. James looked so over Anne Hathaway the whole time (which I think we can all agree on). I also loved watching his facial expressions. You could tell he was so over it all (and probably high).
All in all it was a wonderful evening! Can't wait till next year!

Oscar Predictions...

Based solely on this award season, I think the ladies of Black Swan will be the best dressed at the 2011 Oscars... Let's see if my prediction is right!

Happy...

Crazy stormy weather again! We actually have a chance of snow in the Central Coast. When the weatherman said we had a chance of snow, my mom & I actually laughed! We're just working around the house today, watching the winds & rain. I'm about to put on a pot of coffee & read Jane Eyre (which I'm enjoying a whole lot more than I thought I would!)...

Hysterical...

Sweet Henry...

Every so often, Henry does something so sweet that I completely forget what a beast he can be! Today on our walk, we were moving pretty briskly, but he stopped suddenly. I turned around & he was sniffing a Calla Lilly. I love that he stops and smells flowers. Perhaps we should rename him Ferdinand.

Hannibal Lecter...

For someone who loves scary movies, I have not seen some of the most infamous. I just finished reading Silence of the Lambs, but have yet to see the movie. I must say, solely from what I heard about the movie, I expected something completely different. I think what I got was actually much better than I thought. I really enjoyed reading this book. It was right up my alley though : Clarice was a Behavioral Scientist in training (I was a Behavioral Science major), she lived in Virginia (I'm from VA), and she was tracking a serial killer (sadly I have never done that, but I've watched movies & read a lot about serial killers). It was also a lot less scary than I thought it would be. While it definitely had that creep factor that I hoped for, I was completely fine reading it at night in a room by myself. I was also very surprised at how little of a role Hannibal Lecter played in the whole story. He was of course a prominent character, but his role played out very differently than I thought it would (again this all according to my limited knowledge about the movie). All in all, very interesting story, a little gruesome, but totally worth it in my opinion. Now I have to see the movie and see how they ruined the story :)

Obsessed...

Loving...

I'm in the mood for a Diz trip!

French toast!

Has anyone been watching Better With You? It's SO FUNNY! I highly recommend it.

Um, please tell me where this is!

Can't believe this is decorations for a birthday party! So darling!

I'm obsessed with all things rose right now. I love this lip gloss. It really smells just like roses!

Mulligan...

I just watched An Education (thank you again free movie channels!). I have to say, I liked it a lot more than I originally thought I would. I know it got a lot of critical acclaim (I believe at last years Oscars), but I didn't actually know anyone who had seen it or liked it. I highly recommend this movie, and not just because I like older guys & Europe :)
I really liked Carey Mulligan in it as well. I've noticed her red carpet style before, but hadn't realized all the places I'd seen her (Pride & Prejudice, Wall Street 2, Northanger Abbey). I also love the fact that she dated Shia LaBeouf (girl has good taste). Look at some of her red carpet choices below:

Gloomy Day...

We are having a wonderfully gloomy day today. The wind & the rain are so intense that we actually lost our power for about 3 hours (which of course is a sign of a good storm). I also had the pleasure of going out in it. I met my friend for lunch (who has a similar love of storms), & I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of it! I would love nothing more than to just read a good book (I've just started Silence of the Lambs!), but I have oh so much to do. Can't wait till every single box is unpacked!

The Horse Whisperer...

I just finished reading The Horse Whisperer last night. Now, to be fair, I have quite the history with this story. I vividly remember going to see the movie on my 13th birthday (it was rated PG-13, so it seemed so fitting!) & I absolutely loved it. Almost 11 year later I finally got around to reading the book :) The first 3/4 of the book are absolutely amazing! Then he completely and utterly ruins the story at the end. The movie ending is SO MUCH BETTER! While there is definitely a love story element to the movie, the other stories are more in the forefront. The book chooses to ignore the beautiful story built up in the first half of the book and just highlights the inappropriate love story instead of the other beautiful stories within. I was so disappointed. My advice - go see the movie. It's a really wonderful movie & ends the way I think the book should have.

Pretty Premiere Dresses...

La Vida Loca...

I would die to see Ricky Martin in concert.
I just watched him perform on Ellen...
Here's to hoping his next tour comes through the central coast.

Pilates...

I've started doing my Pilate's videos again.
I forgot how much they hurt!
They remind me of fun times with my college girls doing ridiculous workout videos though.
We'll see if I can keep this up till Kristal's wedding!

Perks...

Since we moved, we have free movie channels for the next month or so... I've been taking full advantage by Tivoing movies that looked too terrible to actually pay to go see. The first one I've watched is Sorority Row...

It was exactly what I wanted it to be :)

NPR...

I love these NPR Valentine's... Can't believe they didn't have one about Ira though...

Grammys...

The Grammy's were very interesting this year. I thought the awards were given to some pretty random people... I mean, I was shocked about Best New Artist (I was voting for Drake - gotta support Degrassi). I was also underwhelmed by the dresses, but there were 2 that I really liked!

I thought this dress was really pretty. Loved the colors & pattern.

I also loved Selena's whole look. Pretty hair, makeup, & dress.

And while I didn't love Miley's dress, I was obsessed with her hair! You can't really see it in this picture, but she was rocking a seriously awesome (but subtle) braid! Gotta learn how to do that one.

Now we need to talk about the performances... I so expected much more from Lady Gaga... But I loved Cee Lo Green & Gwyneth Paltrow's performance! So fun!

Feb 14th...

Happy Valentine's Day, but...
Today is no longer just Valentine's day for me... It's my dear friends birthday! Today is Kenz's 25th Birthday!!!

Kenz, I can't wait till we can celebrate together! You have truly become one of my favorite people these past few years! Hope you have an amazing day full of gluten free treats & hot tubs :)

Love this necklace. I believe it's House of Harlow...

This reminds me of Disneyland... which I of course love.

Truly awesome nail polish.

Really loved Julia Stiles' dress from the SAG awards.

And I always love Whitney's perfect hair!

Fall Into the Gap...

I had THE BEST shopping day ever today.
It was totally unplanned. We had a giant garage sale today & were all so tired of moving, so we decided to go to SLO & eat Chipotle. While we were there we stopped in Gap because there are several dresses I've been eyeing for a while. Well they had exactly 1 of each of the dresses & they happened to be my size! Did I also mention they were 50% off & 75% off? Today was just a good day.

My Week...

I love when I am pleasantly surprised.
I was definitely pleasantly surprised this week...
